Start with a chosen inventory amount
The stock tool uses a target you choose, expressed in net ounces of one selected product. It does not recommend that target or turn it into an eating schedule. Enter how much matching usable inventory you already hold in the same unit. A target of 35oz with 7oz held leaves a 28oz purchase gap; those are an example shopper’s inputs, not a nutritional recommendation.
Round complete packages up
For the selected 6oz Zuke’s bag,28/6 needs five whole bags. They add 30oz, producing 37oz total and 2oz above the chosen target. For 16oz Charlee Bear, two bags add 32oz, giving 39oz total and 4oz surplus. For 4oz Little-Jacs, seven bags add 28oz, giving exactly 35oz. The tool reports packages, added mass, final stock and surplus separately.
Keep recipes and units consistent
Do not combine held Charlee Bear mass with a Zuke’s target as though formulas were interchangeable. Start a separate calculation after changing the product. The form clears its target entries on selection changes to reduce that mistake. It also refuses a piece-based target because current exact bag counts were not verified, and it does not accept fluid ounces for dry net weight.
Handle zero and excess stock openly
If held matching inventory already meets the chosen target, the result is zero bags to buy and the appropriate surplus. It does not display a negative order. Blank, negative, fractional unsupported quantity syntax and out-of-range values are rejected or marked incomplete. Numeric boundaries are stated beside the form so a very large input cannot silently produce an unsafe arithmetic result.
Use the result as an order check
Before paying, compare the package size and number of bags with the actual cart. A merchant multipack needs a new package definition; it is not automatically one selected single bag. The result is a mathematical stock total, not a storage-life promise, recall clearance or prediction of how much a dog will consume.
When held stock is not confidently usable
The field “held” is a user input, not a condition checker. If a bag is damaged or a lot is subject to an unresolved notice, first resolve that issue outside the tool. Do not enter its entire net weight as usable just to reduce the purchase suggestion. The mathematical result is valid only for the chosen matching inventory assumption. Once that assumption changes, clear the entries and recalculate rather than relying on a previous screenshot.
